What is Engineered Wood Flooring?
Most wood flooring these days is classed as engineered wood flooring. This means that the wood planks are made up of layers of plywood with a top layer of real oak. The plywood gives the plank strength and stability and the oak top layer gives a hard wearing surface layer of solid oak.
Engineered wood flooring performs better than traditional solid wood (which is a plank made entirely of solid oak) because the plywood layer adds stability to the plank making it less likely to warp.
It is also far more sustainable, using less oak which is an increasingly rare natural resource. At Floor Design all of our wood flooring products are FSC and/or PEFC certified timber, so you can be confident you are making a choice that is good for you and good for the planet.
What options do I have in wood flooring?
There is a great deal of versitility in wood flooring. It will range from different sized planks of flooring to parquet blocks which are traditionally laid in herringbone patters. There are also more modern chevron patterns available in real wood flooring too.

Colours will range from natural oak to variations of lighter bleached/whitened oak such as Scandi styles as well as darker warmer tones suited to more traditional decorating styles.

The beauty of real wood is that it can work in a wide range of different decorating schemes. There's always a wood flooring option to suit your project.
