A closer look at a recent project in a renovated traditional farmhouse

Updated: Nov 25, 2022

The residents of this beautifully presented farmhouse approached us to help bring their vision to life by redesigning their interior floor space to represent a traditional yet stylistic finish. Read on to find out more about how we delivered on their vision across various areas of the house:

Hallway & Study

The customers wanted a practical floor covering that would be easy to maintain, whilst complimenting the original period features of the property. They chose Amtico Form – Rural Oak (Large parquet) for the central field pattern, with wild walnut design strips and a plank border to the perimeter of the area. Gloriously golden, this elegant, honey-toned oak creates a warm and welcoming space, whilst boasting the traditional elegance of an original floor. The design strip and plank border added a stylistic design element to the floor that emboldened the central field and helped to break up the two areas.

When we uplifted the existing floor covering, we were presented with a mixture of sub floor types that would require some delicate preparation to ensure the finished covering was exceptional. Stone flags direct to earth, chipboard and concrete were all present within the two areas and each presented its own challenge. We used a penetrating primer to the stone flags before smoothing out the area ready for the application of a two-part epoxy damp proof membrane. Overlaying the chipboard with flooring grade plywood we then screeded the remaining areas to the same level. Challenges aside, we were able to complete the installation on time and the floor looks fantastic.

Stairs & Landings

The customers sought a natural floor covering that would provide warmth and practicality underfoot whilst creating a statement centerpiece in those areas. Their chosen carpet (Lakeland Herdwick Weave - Buttermere) is a flatweave design, which adds texture to the carpet and makes it extremely durable and practical for all areas of the home. The collection is made from 100% undyed wool, comprising the wool of Herdwick sheep, native to the Cumbrian Fells in the Lake District. Lakeland Herdwick carpets are authentically British. The appearance and rugged durability of the carpets results from the natural resilience of one of Britain’s best loved and hardiest of sheep breeds.

Dressing Room

Having recently installed a bespoke dressing area with inbuilt wardrobes and vanity area, the customers envisioned a bold contemporary floor covering that would contrast to the light and bright room and furnishings, whilst maintaining practicality for ease of cleaning. Their selection (Karndean Art Select - Black Oak Parquet, with single block border) did just this, with pitch-black oak and detailed grain, crafted texture and a contemporary matt finish, it really produces the WOW factor.

Dining Room & Reception Room

After the success of the recent stairs & landings installation, the customers came back to us to fit the same Lakeland Herdwick carpet in the formal dining room. The herringbone design worked beautifully to compliment the long rustic dining table and narrow room layout. In the reception room, the customers opted for a chunkier loop pattern in the same classic herringbone design to add the feeling of increased luxury and softness underfoot.
